Model Overview

The Sterra ET is the pioneer SUV offering under EXEED—the premium sub-brand of Chery Group—and its dedicated new energy "Sterra" series. Positioned as a luxurious, safe, full-sized 5-seater D/E-segment SUV, it is engineered for discerning buyers seeking cutting-edge technology and family-oriented comfort. Built on Chery’s proprietary E0X global ultra-comfortable high-performance electric platform, the model debuted in 2024 as EXEED’s second high-end new energy vehicle following the Sterra ES electric saloon. As of June 2026, the lineup has expanded across multiple model years, including the 2025 version, available in both range-extended (REEV) and fully electric (BEV) powertrain configurations. Launched in Guangzhou on 19 April 2025, the 2025 Sterra ET introduced 46 upgrades across five key areas including comfort, safety, and intelligence. Official retail pricing ranges from RM172,800 to RM239,800 for the range-extended version, and RM219,800 to RM279,800 for the pure electric version.

Dimension-wise, the ET measures 4,955 mm in length, 1,975 mm in width, and 1,698 mm in height, riding on a generous 3,000 mm wheelbase that delivers true executive-class mid-to-large SUV proportions. Inside, it boasts an effective cabin volume of 3.45 m³ with an impressive space utilisation rate of around 78%. Standard boot capacity is rated at 546 litres, which expands up to 1,835 litres with the rear seats folded flat. Kerb weight ranges between 2,180 kg and 2,605 kg depending on the variant. Rolling stock choices comprise 255/55 R19 and 255/50 R20 tyres. The entire lineup is strictly configured as a spacious 5-seater.

Design Language

Visually, the Sterra ET is shaped by the brand's "Grand Beauty & Minimalism" design language. The front fascia features a split headlamp arrangement integrated with a contemporary full-width LED light bar; notably, both the BEV and REEV variants share an identical front-end design without requiring an open radiator grille for the range extender. The rear continues the minimalist theme with full-width LED taillights that offer sharp nighttime illumination, complemented by a roof-edge spoiler and a concealed rear windscreen wiper for a clean, cohesive tailgate profile. Its wide-track proportions further elevate its commanding, upmarket road presence.

Step inside, and the Sterra ET presents a clean, uncluttered dashboard layout. It is fitted with a two-spoke multifunction steering wheel and a fully digital LCD instrument cluster, alongside a floating centre console bridge that maximises front-row space and practicality. Overhead, a 1.27 m² dual-layer nano silver-coated panoramic glass roof blocks up to 99.9% of UV rays and 98.5% of infrared rays, paired with a powered sunshade for optimal heat insulation and natural ambience. The seats feature up to 14 layers of cushioning and upholstery—the most in its segment—including premium Nuprima micro-suede matte genuine leather, while the rear bench boasts segment-leading 4-way power adjustment with backrest recline angles ranging from 0° to 130°.

Powertrain & Performance

The Sterra ET is offered with a choice of two powertrain setups: the Range-Extended (REEV) and the Pure Electric (BEV). The range-extended model is powered by Chery's in-house SQRH4J15 1.5-litre turbocharged direct-injection dedicated range-extender engine, boasting a class-leading thermal efficiency of 44.5%, an engine output of 115 kW (156 PS) and 220 Nm, generating 3.71 kWh of electricity per litre of fuel. Drive is handled by a rear-mounted permanent magnet synchronous electric motor producing 195 kW (approx. 265 PS) and 324 Nm of torque, drawing power from a 41.16 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack sourced from Gotion High-tech. In terms of efficiency, the rear-wheel-drive (RWD) REEV variant delivers a CLTC pure electric range of 265 km and a total combined range of 1,615 km, with a WLTC battery-depleted fuel consumption of just 5.2 L/100 km on regular RON 92 petrol. The all-wheel-drive (AWD) REEV version returns a depleted fuel consumption of 5.9 L/100 km. DC fast charging supports up to 110 kW, replenishing the battery from 20% to 80% in approximately 14.4 minutes.

The pure electric (BEV) version rides on an advanced 800V high-voltage architecture and is fitted with either a 77 kWh or a 100 kWh high-performance battery pack from CATL. The 77 kWh variant offers a driving range of 625 km in RWD form and 540 km in AWD guise; the larger 100 kWh battery delivers 760 km on the RWD Max variant and 655 km on the range-topping AWD Ultra variant. Thanks to 5C ultra-fast charging capabilities, a 5% to 80% state of charge takes merely 11.5 minutes, adding 475 km of range. The dual-motor AWD version sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds, while overall energy consumption drops to as low as 11.7 kWh/100 km. Top speed is electronically limited to 180 km/h across the board.

Chassis & Handling

Chassis engineering is one of the standout hallmarks of the Sterra ET. Underpinned by the Gimbal Intelligent Chassis, the vehicle features a front double-wishbone and rear five-link independent suspension setup; the front double-wishbone geometry shares its engineering architecture with the Bentley Bentayga, reducing road vibrations by 30% and cushioning speed bump impacts by 40%. Higher-spec variants add the IAS intelligent air suspension paired with CDC (Continuous Damping Control) electromagnetic dampers, which utilise roof-mounted LiDAR to pre-scan road surfaces in real time and adjust damping within milliseconds for a plush, seamless ride over rough terrain. Braking is handled by four-wheel ventilated discs with an electronic parking brake (EPB) and high-performance six-piston front brake callipers. The AWD models come with 7 selectable drive modes, including Off-road, Snow, and Sand. Drivetrain layouts include rear-wheel drive (RWD) and electric all-wheel drive (AWD), with a compact turning radius of 5.65 metres.

Cabin & Equipment

The interior of the Sterra ET is tailored around smart connectivity and daily practicality. Taking centre stage on the dashboard is a 15.6-inch floating touchscreen infotainment display, paired with a 10.25-inch full digital instrument cluster. The system is driven by a 5nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295P chipset, offering split-screen functionality, multi-brand smartphone screen mirroring, and a dedicated camping mode. Audiophiles are treated to a 23-speaker Lion Melody premium sound system pumping out a peak output of 2,880 watts for an immersive soundscape. Cabin NVH refinement is exceptional, with stationary battery replenishment noise on the REEV model registering at a whisper-quiet 38.7 dB, matching sanatorium-grade quietness standards. For comfort, upper trims feature a 16-way power-adjustable zero-gravity front passenger seat, front seat ventilation, heating, and massage functions, as well as 4-way powered rear seats mounted on sliding rails. The driver’s seat includes electric adjustment with memory, complemented by 6 mm acoustic laminated double glazing on all side windows. The cabin also holds dual certifications: the CATARC "5A CN95 Healthy Cabin" and a 2024 C-GCAP 5-star rating.

Safety & ADAS

Safety forms the core pillar of the Sterra ET. The body structure utilises a high-strength cage design composed of 88% high-strength steel and aluminium alloys, integrating hot-stamped one-piece door rings across critical areas like the A-pillars and door sills. A total of 7 airbags come standard across the entire range. In a groundbreaking 31.9-metre high-altitude free-fall drop test (equivalent to a 90 km/h impact), the passenger cell remained intact with zero battery fire or thermal runaway. The model has earned authoritative global safety endorsements, including a 5-star rating in the 2024 C-NCAP crash tests and EU cybersecurity dual certifications for connected vehicles. In terms of battery safety, the pack meets IP68 dust and water resistance, features 2-millisecond rapid collision power cut-off, and eliminates thermal propagation risks.

On the active safety and ADAS front, top-spec variants are equipped with the Falcon Driving Assistance System, powered by 30 perception sensors (including a RoboSense M2 LiDAR unit) and dual NVIDIA Drive Orin-X processors with a total compute capacity of 508 TOPS, supporting urban and highway Navigation on Autopilot (NOA) alongside full-scenario automated parking. In real-world validation across the notoriously complex Qianchun Interchange in Guiyang, the system demonstrated reliable navigation during tricky ramp merging and obstacle avoidance around illegally parked vehicles. Entry-level REEV variants are fitted with a Horizon Journey 3 chip. Standard kit across the board includes a 540° surround-view camera system with transparent chassis view, front and rear parking sensors, full-speed Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), and a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). An industry-first automatic pop-out mechanism for the flush door handles triggers within 10 to 20 milliseconds during a collision, working alongside mechanical emergency releases on all doors to ensure swift egress in emergencies.

Market Performance & Review

The Sterra ET stands as a pivotal spearhead in EXEED’s global expansion roadmap. To date, the SUV has made its entry into several overseas markets, including Russia (badged as the Exlantix ET), Finland, Norway, and the Middle East. In 2025, the first overseas production unit rolled off the assembly line, with plans to expand into over 20 international markets within the year. Domestically in China, however, market reception has seen a notable disparity—total sales for the full year 2025 stood at around 9,767 units, averaging roughly 800 units monthly, while early 2026 figures saw 99 units in January and 88 units in February. On the consumer sentiment front, while the SUV has garnered praise for its ride quality, cavernous cabin space, and responsive powertrain, third-party owner forums have also recorded gripes regarding occasional cabin rattles, uneven tyre wear, convoluted software UI logic, and dealership aftersales support.

From a product perspective, the Sterra ET represents Chery’s flagship benchmark in its quest to challenge the high-end new energy vehicle sector. Anchored by four core technological pillars—the E0X platform, 800V high-voltage architecture, Flying Fish Chassis 2.0, and Falcon ADAS—it demonstrates Chery’s robust R&D capabilities and its vision of "democratising luxury". While domestic sales figures have been modest, its systematic overseas rollout and industry-benchmark technical achievements underscore EXEED's unwavering commitment to the premium electrification space and its long-term globalisation ambitions.
